Prayers for the Week of September 26, 2021

Please feel free to join us in the prayers we prayed in worship, September 26, 2021:

Holy Wisdom, Holy Word,

Mothering God,

in the beginning,

you created all that is,

all of us in the image of you.

You created us and you call us

to live your life in Wisdom,

together,

in and for the world you love.

We give you thanks and praise.

We give thanks and delight

with you in your creation,

the streams, the sky,

every living thing –

and, at the same time,

we acknowledge the ways

that we have neglected

our responsibility to care for the Earth,

to the point of climate emergency.

Give us the discipline and wisdom

to find better, more sustainable ways of living,

that we might help you repair the damage we have done.

We pray for the needs of your children,

for those who are hungry, food;

for those who are unhoused, shelter;

for those who are hurting and ailing, healing;

for those who mourn, comfort;

for those who are lonely, companionship.

Give us more expansive hearts

to notice and tend

the needs of your children

with your love and tender mercy.

And we pray for justice.

Help us to see the world plainly –

the systems that harm

and our complicity in those systems –

help us to stop the harm,

dismantle what needs to come to an end,

and move toward healing and reparation.

Holy Wisdom, Holy Word,

you call us into life,

to live that life in beloved community.

And so, together, joining with all those who have ever called on you,

we pray the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
