Prayers for the Week of February 28, 2021

Please feel free to join us in the prayers we prayed in worship this Sunday, February 28, 2021:

Blessed are you, Holy God,

Maker of the Universe,

you have created all that is,

sustained your creation along the way,

and brought us to this day.

Your unfailing love and tender mercy never cease;

they are fresh as the morning,

and sure as the sunrise. (Lam. 3:22-23)

We give you thanks and praise.

Leaning into your unfailing love,

we bring you this day, our praise, and our joy,

and the concerns that weigh on our hearts.

We pray for those who are sick,

may your healing touch

be in the hands of nurses and doctors

and all who offer tender care.

We pray for those who are grieving,

may your comforting Spirit surround them

with all the love and comfort and peace that they need,

as we claim together the sure promise of Resurrection.

We pray for those who are lonely,

may we be a friend to each other

and to those in need.

We pray for those who are hungry or unhoused,

may our communities and your church

reorganize our structures and priorities

that we may provide food and shelter

so that everyone has enough.

We pray healing

for the gaping wounds of our world.

We pray for an end to pandemic,

for vaccinations swift and sure,

available to all people around the world.

We pray for the dismantling of systemic racism,

stir up discomfort in us at our own complicity,

that we might change and become part of your work of repair.

We pray for healing for the planet reeling in climate emergency,

that we might change collective policy,

and find our way to collective action,

to heal and mend the damage we have done.

Blessed are you, Holy God,

your faithful love and tender mercy endure forever,

fresh as the morning,

and sure as the sunrise.

Loved by you, may we learn better to love each other.

Together, we lift our voices,

with the voices of all who have ever called upon your name,

praying the prayer that Jesus taught:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
