Prayers for the Week of June 27, 2021

Writer: Scott ClarkScott Clark

Please feel free to join us in the prayers we prayed in worship June 27, 2021:

Holy God,

you created the world in love,

the earth, the seas, the skies, the stars,

the birds that soar,

the fish that swim,

humanity,

all of us made in the image of you.

You created us in love,

and you have sustained your creation

across the generations.

Your steadfast love endures forever.

We pray today for families and folks

loving each other in a hard and perilous world.

We pray for the families today

who grieve and wait for word of loved ones

as recovery teams search the rubble

of the building collapse in Florida.

We join in the shock of their lament.

We pray for the family of George Floyd,

as they acknowledge both the sentence in his murder

and its incompleteness in the face

of such profound loss and systemic wrong.

We pray for an end to systemic racism.

Help us to see the harm in which we participate.

Help us to stop and change,

help us muster our capacity for love

to build together a world

where everyone can live free and thrive.

We pray for families of every configuration and kind,

and for the fabulous diversity of humanity.

We thank you for all the ways that you create us

uniquely, in the full spectrum of gender identity,

to live and love in this world,

we affirm and celebrate the humanity and dignity of every person

and affirm that love is love is love.

We pray for families and folks who face illness of any kind.

We pray that you will surround them and fill them

with your healing,

and that you will give us hearts to know

how best to care for each other in your tender mercy.

We pray for the earth, fragile and fierce,

guide us to disciplined ways of living

that repair the damage we have done to this world,

and that help sustain your creation.

We pray for those who are unhoused,

for shelter.

We pray for those who are hungry,

for warm meals and sustenance.

We pray for every one born,

for enough – for enough of every needed thing –

so that each and every one of your children

can survive and live and thrive –

so that every person can

become all that you have created them,

created us, to be.

Created by you,

to live in loving and just community,

may we embody your loving, healing, saving

work in the world.

Joining together, our voices,

with the voices of all who have ever called your name,

we pray the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
