Prayers for the Week of June 16, 2024

Writer: Scott ClarkScott Clark

Please feel free to join us in the prayers prayed in worship Sunday, June 16, 2024:

Loving God,

you have created all that is,

in the depths of the earth and sea,

across the broad expanse of time,

you have created every living thing.

You created us and have woven us together.

We, are fearfully and wonderfully made.

All you works are wonderful –

we know that full well,

and we give you thanks and praise.

In this time of prayer, search us and know us,

speak to the concerns that are on our hearts,

open to us the deep need of the world,

that we might love the world with your love.

We prayer for all who are hurting,

all who are ailing in body or spirit – we pray for healing and wholeness.

For those who are unhoused, we pray for shelter.

For those who are hungry, food enough and more,

For those who mourn, comfort.

For every lonely moment,

reassurance of your abiding presence with us always,

and the kind word of a friend.

We pray for your earth,

in this time of climate unravelling.

Stop us short – call to our attention the work that is ours to do –

the change that is needed – in us –

to mend the world we have harmed – and to live faithfully in our new realities.

We pray for all those hurting from systems of oppression,

particularly systemic American racism.

Search us and know us, show us the ways that we are complicit,

and help us to stop, and to join the work of dismantling and repair,

building with you a world where all are free.

We look around at this world full of violence and war,

and we pray for your peace –

peace in Ukraine, peace in Sudan, peace in Israel/Palestine,

peace that embodies justice –

peace that nourishes the thriving of all people, all creation.

We lift to you the concerns that weigh on each of our hearts,

the gratitude that rises up in our spirit,

as we join together in prayer with each other,

and with everyone around the world, and down through the generations,

who has ever called on you,

praying the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
