Prayers for the Week of January 11, 2026

Please feel free to join us in the prayers prayed in worship Sunday, January 11, 2026:

Almighty God,

we know that you created the world in love,

every bit of it, every bit of us,

and you have never stopped loving your creation.

You have accompanied your creation down through the generation,

bringing those enslaved out into freedom,

bringing the those who are exiled back home,

healing our brokenness.

We know that you love your creation,

and we give you thanks and praise.

And, there’s a lot we don’t know,

a lot we don’t understand.

We don’t understand how the regime that is in power in this country

can illegally invade another country and steal their oil,

without any accountability.

We don’t understand why Renee Nicole Good is dead.

We know what we have seen,

but we don’t understand how it has come to this.

We don’t understand why so many have to fear this government,

how we have come to fear each other.

Help us.

Help us to see what is wrong and learn how to do better.

Help us live lives that embody your good and loving will for the world.

Where there is war, help us live lives that bring about peace with justice.

Where there is violence, help us rise up, resist, and insist on love and human dignity.

Where there is hatred, help us live out of the humanity we find in you.

We pray for those who are grieving,

we pray not only for comfort – but for everything they need to go on –

love, and rest, and time and space to mourn.

We pray for those who are hungry, for food enough and more.

We pray healing for all who are ailing in body or spirit,

and healing for the Earth we have damaged to the point of unraveling.

We pray shelter for those who are unhoused, or refugees,

we pray for shelter, a safe place without fear where they can live and thrive.

Help us to understand in our bones who we are in you,

and then to live that out.

We give thanks for all the saints who have gone before,

who loved and brought us to this moment,

where we can live for you and for the healing and nurture of your world.

With them, and with everyone in any place and any time who has ever called on you,

we pray the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
