Prayers for the Week of September, 25, 2022

Please feel free to join us in the prayers prayed in worship, Sunday, September 25, 2022:

Creating, Lamenting, Loving God,

you created everything that is in love,

and you have accompanied your creation

across the generations,

through the whole of life.

You heard the cry of your people in slavery,

and you brought them out, and set them free.

You heard the lament of your people taken into exile,

you sought them out, and you showed them the way home.

You enter, with us, into the deep ditches of life,

you sit there with us,

and you walk us up and out

into wholeness and life.

For your constant creating and re-creating presence,

we give you thanks and praise.

We hear the lament of your world,

we pray for your help.

We hear the cry of an earth

that we have damaged to the point of collapse.

Stop our destructive ways,

teach us and lead us into

ways of living that repair and restore

your good creation.

We hear the lament of those harmed by climate disruptions,

all who are in the path of fire and storms.

We pray especially today for the people of Puerto Rico,

reeling and rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Fiona.

We pray for their safety and well-being,

and for the restoration of systems that provide food, water, and power.

Help us see how we can help.

Help us see how the inequitable systems of this nation, the United States,

continue to harm the people of Puerto Rico, our sister and brother citizens;

lead us on a path that not only helps our siblings there in this crisis,

but that builds systems based on justice and equity.

We pray for an end to every system of oppression,

particularly systems of American racism.

Loving God, we come to you with the lament

we bring from our own lives – our own pain,

and deep concern for friends and neighbors.

We pray for those who are unhoused, for shelter;

for those who are hungry, food enough and more;

for those who are lonely, companionship;

for those who are hurting, healing in body and spirit;

for those who work, a living wage and dignity;

for every child of yours, the freedom to live and thrive and flourish.

Loving God, you weep for the pain of your people.

In a world watered by your tears,

help us to plant with you

that which nourishes, sustains, and empowers your creation,

so that together we might live your life –

and live it abundantly, and free.

In connection with all you have created,

with all who have ever called your name,

we join our voices with theirs praying the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
