Prayers for the Week of August 20, 2023

Please feel free to join in the prayers prayed in worship Sunday, August 20, 2023:

Give thanks to God for God is good.

God’s steadfast love endures forever.

God you have created all that is in love,

and you accompany your creation,

particularly present in the deep need of the world,

standing with those who are hurting and vulnerable.

And so we pray for your help:

For an end to every kind of violence in every place

for peace wherever there is war

for healing wherever there is hurt,

for the dismantling of every system that oppresses,

particularly systemic American racism,

for an end to the harm we do to our planet.

We pray for the people of Maui, for healing and help

in the wake of wildfires,

and in the trauma of loss.

We pray for the people of Ukraine, for peace.

We pray for those who lie in the path of storms,

for safety.

We pray for those who are unhoused,

and for those who are refugees,

for safe shelter;

For those who are hungry, food enough and more;

for those who are ailing in body or in spirit, healing,

for those who are lonely, companionship,

for those who are grieving, comfort.

You stand with those who are hurting,

with your healing, justice, and peace.

With those all who have ever called on your name,

we lean into your goodness and steadfast love,

praying together the prayer that Jesus taught, saying:

Our Father/Mother, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
