Thank you, Knitters!

Phyllis Schlobohm and the Closely Knit group distribute Mitts, Caps & Scarfs.

Greetings all knitters,

Did you know that over the past half year our group has knitted 51 caps, 53 scarves and 27 pairs of fingerless mitts for our winter shelter guests?  That is absolutely amazing!  Now that we have given them all out, I want to report to you on this project.

On Friday night, December 23 we set up two tables in Duncan Hall and displayed caps, scarves and mitts that The Closely Knit Group made.  The men took time to select just the right ones and were very grateful for their gifts.  Since there were only about 30 men at the shelter that night we had about half of the gifts left.  We waited until the weather turned rainy to take the rest back to the shelter.

So last night was the perfect time to go back to the shelter with our caps, scares and mitts.  This time there were 50 men who streamed in out of the cold rain for supper in Duncan Hall.  After they enjoyed the chili, corn bread, salad and brownies, they came over to the tables filled with gifts.

I wish you all could have seen how happy the guys were to be able to choose their own gifts.  They may not have been as careful at matching the mitts or caps with scarves as the men had been in December but they did look them over carefully and try them on before walking away with their selection.  There were only a few scarves left which we gave them to take back to other men this morning.

Thanks so much to all of you who knitted over 130 gifts that brought joy and warmth to our winter shelter guests!  You are a great group!  It has been wonderful to see the items come in nearly every Sunday and the baskets and bags filled and multiplied.  Also a special thanks to the Deacons who support our ministry by paying for the yarn this past year!

I hope you have been taking time to knit for your own families and friends as well as continuing to knit prayer shawls for that on-going part of our serving the FPC SA community.

Together We Knit,

Phyllis
