Marin CROP Walk April 29th

logo

Mark Your Calendars! Sunday, April 29th at 1:30PM, will be the annual CROP Walk.  The CROP Walk consists of local congregations across the country who are coming together to help eliminate poverty overseas and in our local communities. In Marin, a group of local congregations are coming together to form the Marin CROP Walk with each congregation creating a team that will raise money and will walk together in San Rafael on April 29th. Our church will have a team for the CROP Walk and is looking for participants who will be willing to join.   This is not only a great opportunity to raise money and awareness for hunger issues in the world and in Marin County, but will also allow us to have fellowship with church members and other local congregations in the area. The walk is about three miles long and will begin at First Presbyterian Church of San Rafael at 1:30PM.  Participants may walk the entire or part of the walk if desired. Feel free to bring wagons, strollers, and roller blades!

Anyone who wishes to join our team and walk, should contact Seminary Intern, Christopher Schilling at clschilling@rocketmail (dot) com and ask him about signing up.  He will also be available during the coffee hour after worship every coffee hour in April taking names of walkers and taking donations as well.  If you would just like to donate for the walk, please visit the First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo’s team page by clicking here and donating online.

Flamingo Sighting

DID YOU HEAR THE NEWS? DID YOU READ THE REPORTS?

It was the weekend of March 2nd. A blanket of new snow had covered the Sierra Nevada’s, long overdue. And as dozens of Boy Scouts from across the county traveled up to the very famous Camp Marin Sierra, they were greeted with some other welcoming friends…..

Over 25 Pink Flamingos were spotted relaxing in the snow as part of a special Luau Party weekend.  Not afraid of the 180 youth and adult scouters, they chilled the whole time! The flamingoes provided a nice welcoming to the scouts and were also a colorful addition to the very fun, sunny, and yet snowy weekend. They stayed for the entire party, not wanting to miss any of the fun and exciting program that were being offered.

A real treat, all the scouts were extremely pleased but still shocked by their presence, as Pink Flamingos have never been spotted up at Camp Marin Sierra. Everyone, including the pink flamingos were sad to leave, but we can only hope they plan on attending next year!

Rev. Clark’s Lenten Devotional

Screen Shot 2012-03-01 at 3.47.11 PM

For Lent, I continue in my regular, sustaining practice of morning devotions — committing to a daily, early-morning encounter with God in Scripture (and in devotions written by sisters or brothers in the faith).  This Lenten season, I find myself also writing and editing morning devotions, as I work on the seminary’s daily email devotions.  This year for Lent, we are considering together the theme of “Embodying the Good News” — thinking together about what it means at Lent to say that Jesus embodies the good news, and that WE embody the good news.  All are welcome to join us in this discipline of daily devotions.  The devotions are written by students, staff, faculty, alums, and are available by email, Facebook, and Twitter at http://sfts.edu/alumni/2012_devotions_signup.asp

The Gift of Flowers

Pulpit Flowers from Betty Stott's garden

Flowers grace our sanctuary each Sunday, and bring joy to people’s lives. Seeing colorful arrangements, with each flower uniquely displaying God’s immense creative power, contributes to our spiritual experience in church. Visual elements, together with music and the spoken word, ensure we have a spiritual feast each Sunday.

Flowers are purchased and arranged each Sunday morning by Flower Guild members Erika Hagopian, Inger Hewitt, Joanne Jones, and Maureen Kalbus. You can support this important ministry by dedicating flowers in memory of someone, or to commemorate a birthday, anniversary, celebration. Or consider dedicating flower in simple thankfulness, for all to enjoy.

When you dedicate flowers, your name and dedication will be printed in the church bulletin (or not, if you prefer). To make a flower donation, please fill in a Flower Request form, put it and a check in an envelope, and drop it in the offering plate. You can also send it to the Church Office, attention Maureen Kalbus. Maureen will contact you to confirm and discuss preferences in flowers and colors. Checks should be made payable to First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo and “Flower Guild” written on the memo line. You can also download a form to print on your computer by clicking here.

After each service, the flowers are arranged in vases and taken to members of the congregation who are sick or homebound. Your beautiful flower arrangements are part of an important church ministry and appreciated by by many, both in church and at home.

2012 Lenten Devotional Study

Palcraftaid

The Church & Society Committee brings to you the Lenten Devotional Study on the book of Mark prepared written by Rev. Elizabeth Knott, founder of Pal Craftaid. Download a copy of the 2012 Lenten Devotional by clicking this link (then right-click to print or save a copy to your computer).

Rev. Elizabeth Knott is a retired Presbyterian minister. In July of 1992 she participated in a seminar to Palestine-Israel which was co-sponsored by the Presbyterian Global Ministrie and Peacemaking agencies. The seminar became an unexpected transformative venture sending her back 32 times to the Holy Land. In 1993 se founded the volunteer ministry of PalCraftAid whose purpose has become to provide support, healing, and hope to Palestinian individuals and families. Through the importing and selling of Palestinian sculpted olivewhood and counted cross strich needle work to congregations, over $500,000 has been raised to various Palestinian organizations who offer critical life-sustaining sustaining ministrie to those in desperate need.

More information about Pal Craftaid and the Lenten Devotional can be found here.

Joyful Noise!

120212 Youth Coffee House 002

Guitars, keyboard, bass, cookies, and goat nails…were all enjoyed by our young people on Sunday.  The Youth Connection rocked out to “Peace Like a River” and even kept it together for a third verse.  Other songs were attempted with varying results.  We have a ways to go on the Beatles’ “Love Me Do,” but a wonderful, musical time was had by all.

Many thanks to Al and Carol for helping lead us with instruments, guidance, and hot cocoa!

We’ll jam again in a few weeks so keep looking for songs that you’d like for us to learn.
